¡Bienvenidos a todos!
Me llamo Charles. Soy originario de China y hace mucho tiempo que vivo en Texas, EE.UU. Empecé a estudiar español en 2012 en un colegio comunitario (por un semastre) y una escuela privada (por approximadamente cinco meses). Y ahora lo aprendo por mi cuenta. Me falta prática. Participaré en TAC 2014 con el Equipo Lobo. En cuanto al objetivo… simplemente siga incrementando mi comprensión global. A continuación puede encontrar algunas actividades que hago a menudo y algunos recursos que utilizo: - Lectura en voz alta: Es mi actividad predilecta:) Intento imitar la pronunciación y la entonación. Los textos y podcasts que leo y escucho son Intermediate Spanish (Berlitz), Spanish Headstart (FSI) y ssl4you (http://ssl4you.blogspot.com). - Audición: Escucho los podcasts de nivel intermedios en Notes in Spanish con frecuencia. Pero, actualmente mi nivel de comprensión = bajo:( Además escucho los podcasts de “De Película” (RNE) y unas estaciones mexicanas por Tunein. No puedo entender mucho…. sólo para divertirme:) - Telenovelas Miro unos programas como Destinos, Extr@ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extr@). Y he convertido un capítulo de Rubí (una telenovela mexicana;) en mp3 y lo escucho mientras conducen. Es el relato del amor, el engaño y la traición;-) - Lectura: Tengo dos libros tanto en español como en inglés -- La casa en Mango Street (Sandra Cisneros) y A orillas del río Piedra me senté y lloré (Paulo Coelho). Leo las dos versiones en forma paralela e intento leer tres o cuatro páginas cada vez. - Escritura Escribo y publico entradas en italki y Lang-8. E intercambio correos electrónicos con una amiga mexicana de correspondencia. Las correcciones y explicaciones que he recibido son valiosas. ¡Uff! Hi, everyone! This is Charles. I started learning Spanish in 2012 – one semester at a community college and another five months in a private language school. Right now I study it on my own. I’ll participate in TAC 2014 with Team Lobo. As for the goal.... just continue to improve the overall comprehension:)
Here are some exercises that I do regularly and the resources/materials that I utilize: - Read-out-loud with audio: My favorite exercises:) I try to imitate the speaker’s pronunciation and intonation. The CDs that I listen to include Intermediate Spanish (Berlitz), Spanish Headstart (FSI) and the podcasts from ssl4you (link>> http://ssl4you.blogspot.com). - Listening I’ve just started listening to Notes in Spanish intermediate podcasts. My current comprehension level = low:( As for passive listening, I listen to De Película podcast (RNE) and various Mexican radio stations via Tunein.com. Just for fun:) - Telenovelas Destinos, Extr@. (Ok, they aren’t real telenovelas;-) Extr@ is another educational series that I found on Youtube. It’s relatively easy. I’ve also converted one episode of Rubí (a Mexican telenovela;) to mp3 and listened to it while driving. It’s a story of love, deception, betray...;-) - Grammar/vocabulary: In addition to Spanish Verb Tenses, Spanish Sentence Builder, 601 Spanish Verbs, 2000 Most Useful Spanish Words… etc, etc, I’ve got one book that I like very much -- Conversando en Inglés (bought at Half Price Books). It explains English grammar patters to Spanish-speaking learners. And it works equally great for me too as the book is written in Spanish and helps me understand how Spanish grammar patterns work:) - Reading I have The House on Mango Street (Sandra Cisneros) and By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept (Paulo Coelho) in both English and Spanish. I read both versions side by side and try to read 3-4 pages each time. - Writing I’ve written and posted my entries on italki and Lang-8 for a while. I also exchange emails with a pen pal in Mexico. The corrections and explanations that I’ve received are valuable. OK, that’s all for now. Looking forward to sharing study skills/tips and resources with everyone. In 2014, in addition to continuing improving Spanish, I’m going to learn Japanese…. AGAIN;-)
A long, long time ago…. when I was in college, I had one semester of Japanese. Now I only remember small bits and pieces of what I learned. Back then we used Shin Nihongo no Kiso Book 1 (新日本語の基礎 I – kana/kanji version) as our textbook. Each lesson consists of basic sentences, a short dialog, pattern drills and listening practices. It worked quite well for me when I was taking that course so I’m going to use the same book again. In addition, I’ll use FSI Japanese Headstart as the supplemental material. And I’ll continue to use italki.com and Lang-8.com to practice writing in Japanese. Here’s a short “Let me introduce myself….” intro in Japanese: 自己紹介させていただきます。わたしはチャ ールズです。中国の出身です、今米国のテキ サス州に、住んでいます。 大学の時一度日本語を勉強しました。でも、 もちろん、ずっと昔のことだけど。全然覚え ていません。また日本語を勉強したいと思い ます。 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I also use another similar website >> http://viki.com . Now I'm watching a Mexican telenovela "Rubí".... (I think I've addicted to those soaps;-) Every now and then I also "watch" (passive listening/watching) TV series on RTVE >>http://www.rtve.es/television/series-tve/ Of course, they are way beyond my current level of comprehension. Ayer conversé con una colombiana por Skype. Le conocía cuando empecé a estudiar español hace un año. Hemos hecho mucho tiempo que no hablamos y quería ver si he mejorado el español. Por eso, le dije al principio de la sesión. --¡No inglés!
Como acercamos al fin del año, me dijo como el Año Nuevo se celebra en Colombia. Por ejemplo, las costumbres más comunes en Colombia son: 1. Se come 12 uvas tan pronto como el reloj marca las 12. Una uva significa un mes del año que viene. Se pide un deseo mientras comiendo una uva. 2. Se pone un billete en el bolsillo que significa, por supuesto, la estabilidad financiero. 3. Se lleva ropa interior de color amarillos que favorece la buena suerte y la prosperidad. ¡Qué interesante! 4. Cuando el reloj marca las doce se lleva la maleta y corre hacia el exterior. Eso garantiza muchos viajes el año siguiente. Y después hablamos otras cosas como el clima, el estudio de idiomas. Al final, hay unos aspectos positivos y negativos. El Aspecto positivo: Podía completar la sesión sin inglés. (¿Cómo se dice yippee en español?;-) Aunque busqué algunas palabras en el diccionario una o dos veces. Supongo que hice un poquito de trampa;-) Los aspectos negativos: La pronunciación: mal La comprensión auditiva: mal. Especialmente en los temas que no conozco.
