Update: I'm up to lesson 30 in the Assimil active wave and I am finding that "the rust" is shedding nicely from my German. It's really getting into the meat of conversation now and I'm finding it quite fun. I've also been reviewing my top 2000 vocab on Anki and reading. I may start reading a new novel (new for me anyway) by Simon Beckett call "Voyeur". It looks like kind of fun. The thing I REALLY need to do is get some spoken practice in. I missed one of my meetups this Month when I had the flu. I feel like my active skills have gone down the drain. I know that once I get back into it, I'll be fine, but right now the thought of talking makes me sweat a little. Thanks for listening to me babble. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Hallo! I just finished lesson 50 (active) for Assimil and all is going well.
I've listened to about 16 advanced Germanpod101.com podcasts this last couple of weeks and I've been writing some dialogs for practice. I've also been doing quite a bit of self-talk trying to get my active skills back up to par. I went to one of my local German meetup groups earlier this week and did better than I thought I would. My speaking is starting to really come back and I'm falling in love with German all over again. It's kind of making it tough to focus any time on Mandarin or Spanish because all I want to do is German. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Also, lese ich in letzter Zeit meine Buch "Voyeur" von Simon Beckett. Es ist interessant, obwohl ziemlich seltsam. Ich kann ungefahr 90 prozent der Worte verstehen, und das ist mir perfekt. Halb die Worte muss ich in einem Wörterbuch nachschlagen, und die anderen Worte kann ich von Kontext mal raten.
Ich bin wieder krank. Meine Nase ist verstopft, und ich bin mude. Ich glaube, dass ich eine Nebenhöhlenentzündung habe. Glucklicherweise, habe ich zu hause Antibiotika. Ich hasse es, wenn ich krank bin. Ich bin so bereit, wieder gut zu fühlen. Corrections welcome! "Wort" has two different plural forms: "Worte" if you're talking about words in a speech, and "Wörter" if you're talking about single words in a more general context. In this case, it should have been "Wörter". Other than that, pretty good for writing without a dictionary! Gute Besserung! What a great week! I'm finally feeling 100% and moving full speed ahead with my reading. I've been keeping up on my short text/dialog/island writing (being corrected via Lang-8). I've also been listening to all German podcasts and quite a it of self-talk. I've also watched the entire 2nd Season of How I Met Your Mother in German (LOVE IT).
I'm loving German right now. Everything about it. I love the freedom I have in the language (thanks to the last 2 years of hard work and study) and I love the sound and the expressivenes. I feel like a new person in German. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Achtung! Ich werde meinem Herzen Luft machen.
Also, eine gute Freundin von mir hat fuer mehrere Jahre mit den Krebs gekämpft. Ich habe neulich einige tragische Nachricht bekommen. Der Krebs sind in ihre Gehirn gegangen, und sie hat sehr wenig Zeit zu leben. Ich tue mich schwer, mit ihr Situation fertig zu werden. Sie ist alleinerziehend. Sie hat zwei junge Kinder, und ich habe Angst um sie. Ihre Familie tut mir so leid. Ich fuehle mich so hilflos. Das tut mir auch sehr leid, BaronBill! Das Leben ist manchmal sehr schwer zu verstehen. Ich wünsche dir und besonders ihr nun viel Kraft, die Situation zu ertragen. Mein tiefes Mitgefühl gilt dir, ihr und vor allem ihren Kindern.
