AJATT Critical Frequency: A Brand New Way of Looking At Language Exposure

It does help to have several exposures each day.

Thanks. No matter what I do, a space gets added to all my urls. Is this a restriction
that one day will be lifted on me?

It happens to everyone. You just have to edit the space out.

Yeah, use the url tag, this way it will know it's a link.
There's also a chrome bug (and here's mrwarper's fix) that splits the link where the line ends, but it doesn't seem to be this. there's one split due to a space and one more due to a dash.

Definitely the quality and quantity of your language study is important. In my school days I'd never thought the
things I didn't do outside class and during my summer vacations were that important. Instead of going on
vacation to the Bahamas, I could have gone to France and taken a summer correspondence course to improve my
French. When the beginning of the school year rolls around I'd be ahead of the whole class.

In the beginning it is absolutely important to push yourself because your retention level is still very low. A 3-
month summer vacation without using French is a rather long time. In my school days nobody in class thought
this was important.

Just to make things easier on retaining my Chinese, I get into a habit of listening to Chinese news broadcasts at
certain times of the day. And I also look for Chinese videos (movies & TV shows) that appear to be interesting so
that I don't have to rely on phrase books that get to be boring and repetitive. And always keep a list of your new
words and phrases. When you are watching a comedy with / without subtitles, you don't really think of using the
video as a language learning / retention tool. It's just something very funny you want to watch it over again.

In my daily routine I'd listen to news in Chinese every day. The other programs are really optional. On the other
hand I don't like to turn watching videos into a routine that at certain time in the evening I'm supposed to watch a
1h show from China or Taiwan. I tend to follow pre-recorded TV drama series. There are certain ones that I really
enjoy I'd watch 3 episodes a night (40m an episode without commercials) and then a week or 2 without watching
any TV shows in that language. Watching TV series online is not like taking medications 3 capsules, 3x/day sort of
thing. Before the New Year I was into watching "96°C 咖啡" in 20 episodes and then took time off to watch "La
Cage aux Folles" in French before going back to another Chinese video "企鹅爸爸". Some of the time I'd be in a
gym on a treadmill or exercise bike with a portable device with headphones to watch foreign language films.
You're doing 2 things at a time without thinking about it.
