Has anyone used Mubi before? They offer a choice of
thirty international movies for $36 a year. Each day they put up a new movie, & remove the last movie on the list. Their web app is available in English, French, Norwegian, Bokmål, German, Italian and Turkish. Wikidpedia article here. It sounds like a great idea, and I'm about to give it a 7-day test run. I still have some reservations about actually joining ... I'd love to hear if anyone has any experience with them. Nanjing!- Hong Kong, 2009 My Joy / Sčasťje mojo - Russian, 2010 Unmistaken Child - Israel (in Hindi), 2008 Alps - Greece, 2011 The Blue Angel / Der Blaue Engel - Germany, 1930 5 Broken Cameras - Palestine, 2011 The Scent of Green / Papaya Mùi du du xanh - Vietnamese, 1993 Nénette et Boni - France, 1996 Burma VJ - Denmark (in Burmese), 2009 Paradise: Love - Austria, 2012 Reindeerspotting - Finnish, 2010 Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow / Ieri, Oggi, Domani - Italian, 1963 Tuesday, After Christmas / Marţi, după Crăciun - Romanian, 2010 Headshot / Fon Tok Kuen Fa - Thailand, 2011 Mon Oncle Antoione - France, 1971 The American entries, at least for now, tend to be more screwball comedies like The Pajama Game. I guess this balances out all the international drama. I'll keep you all posted! I like the variety, even if few are in my target languages. I stumbled on it while looking for Turkish movies, which are hard to find. This was founded by a Turkish guy, and has a Turkish version of the site ... I'm hoping that means there will be at least some Turkish movies in the line up. I think you can download the movies if you don't want to stream them. Seems to be geolocation restricted, ie. as a German resident, you need to use
de.mubi.com, as a Norwegian no.mubi.com and so on. The lineup of films is different for different countries. Anyway, what made me cringe was the announcement on de.mubi.com for the new movie: it's a French movie with German audio and no subtitles. Just idiotic, who on earth would want to watch a French movie with German audio? I'm running into problems too. The app doesn't load on smart phones (so no beaming it to
tv), older version of iPads, or roku streaming. The only way I can watch their flics is on my computer. Too bad, I still think it's a great idea. For me, though, it's not practical at this time.
