Yes, that is correct interpretation, dampingwire. The important thing
about movies and tv series is their audio, not the image, so audio only input counts
just as much.

Online reading can count as well, it is still reading. However, how do people measure
and count is something I'm not familiar with. I don't count my websites reading because
I am lazy to measure it anyhow. If I did, I would have been done with the reading part
after a few months.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I'll de-rate audio time while commuting (or cycling) by 50% to allow for the fact that
I won't be able to devote 100% of my attention to it.

As for online reading, I just checked what I think is my densest Japanese physical book
and that is 17 columns of 50 characters each. So 850 characters per page. So I'll
copy+paste each article I read into one document and simply ask the wordprocessor to
count for me. (I'll eliminate punctuation first). Then I'll divide by 850 and round
down for a page count.

I presume I can just feed the bot pages and/or duration each tweet and it will do the
all the calculations for me?

So, will quarter-challenges be allowed, based on the star-systems?
This changes everything.

Also, how does it work in practical purposes? I don't plan on registering to the bot, I'm going to log it manually.

I thought there would be a star for 25 books according to the old rules, ie 50 according to the new ones.

As for net etc, here's how Tadoku handles it:

A newspaper article or webpage counts as 1 page if it has roughly the 3 paragraphs worth of text, give or take a sentence. If the webpage or news article is unusually long, you may count it as more than a page.
1 page = 2-3 paragraphs
1 paragraph = 5-8 short sentences OR 2-4 long sentences

Also, for Japanese 1 page is about 400 characters, and books like this are considered "double-rowed" where each page counts as double.

I would fear a great star inflation if we would really get a star for each 25 books in the new system. That would be...erm...one star per 1250 pages, so for 3 books in average? In 2016, people might find themselves mixing up HTLAL with the Milky Way...

Anyway, if people would find this motivating - I would be ok with it....

I see the inflation regarding books, but I'm more worried about films...I really can't do 30 minutes a day for each of my languages without jeopardizing my progress on the other skills.

I don't see how 1 star for 25 books or films is inflation. The definition of Books were reduced in pages because people has so much trouble finishing the last challenge. Are we now complaining that the new system is too easy? LOL!

Stars were something Surrealix put on the bot page. Then I suggested stars for partial achievement to keep people going. My original idea was to give people quarter stars (obviously for each quarter completed).

Also remember that this challenge is for most learners, not just the super learners (which is one reason Solfrid keeps pushing the idea of focusing on one language). For most language learners, 1250 pages in their target language is a massive accomplishment.

Yes, especially if it is your first 1250 pages in a language!
