I think you can get the German translations in ebook format, so even at A2 you should be able to read them.

Or Ronja Räubertochter by the same Astrid Lindgren. A beautiful story, very different from Pippi Langstrumpf. Also, have a look here, there are many excellent books on this list. I can recommend: - Die unendliche Geschichte - Momo - Das doppelte Lottchen - Räuber Hotzenplotz - Krabat (very much so!) - Emil und die Detektive - Jim Knopf - Das fliegende Klassenzimmer - Die rote Zora Die unendliche Geschichte, Momo and Krabat are really good books, suitable for adults as well as for kids. The German rock group Jupiter Jones is named after one of the three investigators. I had never heard of the three investigators until I got into Jupiter Jones.
