I'll get Michel Thomas Method Arabic, as that series usually provides a good springboard into a language's core grammar in a non-obfuscatory fashion. Then, with that decent working knowledge to get me started, I'll dive into deeper grammar knowledge and of course expand my vocabulary.

I'd prefer we all studied the same course. As I have already mentioned, I believe the last Study Group failed because the members were doing very different things. If we do not study the same thing, we would hardly benefit from studying in a group. :-)
If you want to do Michel Thomas first, we should all do it, but AFAIK, it teaches Egyptian Arabic. Do you think we should start with Egyptian before moving on to MSA, rather than the other way around?

I like the idea of video lectures in principle; the ones to which you linked seem reluctant to load at present though.

Here's a link to the first lecture on youtube

Thank you for the video link. I like his style.

I think we all have to study our different materials in addition to this material. My main interest is in the language
itself, and I don't think I'd be better off limiting myself in that regard.

Weekly progress reports for how long? However long we like?

Nouns, verbs, and particles. That simplifies things.

Well, the TACs work quite well. Maybe we do have different ideas about what is needed (perhaps because we have different needs).

Well, I wouldn't wish to impose my preference on everyone, especially as the course is quite expensive (£170 for "Total" and "Perfect", as they are currently branded, something akin to what they used to call "Foundation" and "Advanced").

At this stage, I don't know enough about Arabic to be able to make an informed decision about how much it will interfere with learning to learn a dialect before MSA. In principle, learning MSA first is logically ideal. In practice, I haven't yet found resources for MSA that I like.

Thanks! That's very helpful. I suppose this is chiefly Classical/Quranic Arabic? I don't mind if it is; at this stage, I'll take any Arabic I can learn, if I like the medium in which it's being taught.

Yes you are right, the Madinah books do indeed teach Classical Arabic.
The first order of business would be to start a thread in the language log section.

Sorry, I must have missed your post.
The ideal would be to keep on going till we finish what we decide to study.
We never stop learning a language. But we do need to set a concrete goal.
I will be content if I finish the first Madinah book. That's the goal I'm setting for myself.

You're on.

Looks like a thirty-eight page long PDF that teaches you to read Arabic. Should take a week or two at most. Once
we've done that we'll set a new goal?

I'll supply it by learning phrases and dialogues from TY. It helps to have something to read. I can write some of them
here later if you want.

That would be great.

I have set up the group log here. Perhaps, we should continue our conversation there.
