Hi everyone, this is my first thread. I am getting back into Russian after a hiatus of
just under a year. I was about a low A2 when I stopped, so I am a false beginner.

Has anybody here used or perused the 'Ruslan Russian' series? I have seen some good
reviews on Amazon, but I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience using
their courses?

I am currently using 'The new penguin Russian course', Colloquial Russian 1 (which I
love!), and 'Berlitz Russian'. I also have the audio for 'Teach Yourself Russian', but
not the book.TY was the course that I used when I began to learn Russian.

Would the 'Ruslan' series be a good investment or is it similar to what I am already
using?

Poly, does Ruslan Russian come with audio? I've not used it, but I think it wouldn't be
worth adding if it doesn't have audio.

Ruslan is terrible. Avoid it like a plague of locusts.

Thanks for the replies. Eric, it does come with audio but if it is as poor as tarvos says
I will hang on to my money for now.

I don't know if you know it, but there are some lessons available for download and testing, at http://www.ruslan.co.uk/demos.htm. Maybe it is a good idea to rely on these demos more than on some random advice ...

I used the series in a classroom environment. It's meant for that.

It's not meant for class-room use exclusively. Besides, it's got lots of audio, and you get instant feedback while doing exercises, in Ruslan 3 at least.
The only thing that is specifically class-room material are the speaking practice exercises in pairs or little groups. So you skip those, or create virtual speaking partners, like you would when using any other learning material. I think it looks quite good actually. And the price for Ruslan 1 (book + audio CD) compares favourably with most other language materials on the market.
Definitely a far cry from a plague of locusts.
