I have been using this Learners dictionary for a while, and I give it my highest
recommendation. It's a gem of a resource.

Approx 1200 pages.

--It gives good example German sentences (as in readable even for someone at A1.2
level).
--It has a layout, and gives explanation that is comprehensible to a learner.
As an example, here are some excerpts from the entry for "zu"

1.in response to the question 'to where?' to. Sie hatte auf dem Weg zur
Arbeit einen Unfall. Willst du heute zu uns kommen? Ich muss noch zur Post/zum
Friseur.
