My aim has always been to aim for C2 in German, but that's a long journey, and I am not sure I won't get distracted at some point along the way.

If I somehow ended up living in one of those countries where I know I can do the language, then for sure I would be dedicating most of my study time to get as good as possible in that language. Until then they're just hobbies, my languages. Trying to get to C2 level from afar is like cycling into a strong headwind (worthwhile but unnecessarily challenging).

I'd often thought about learning one language to a very high level, but I rarely focused on one language for longer than a few months at the most. After that I would give in to wanderlust and learn some other languages for a while.

I began this year intending to learn mostly Spanish and Finnish, but by February I decided I would rather just learn Finnish and that's what I'm doing.
