I've added all the French films I've enjoyed watching.

I need a characters-to-page conversion rate =D
I'm going to read Chinese mostly online, using Pera Pera, and I need to know how many
pages I will have read each time.

Based on a sampling of my Chinese novels, I'm going to go with 450, myself.

I'm really lost on this. I've counted the characters of an average page of an epub I'm
reading now and it is over 700.

Counting textbooks is more for the A1-A2 candidates. If you are over on native material, I would not count textbooks, and just enjoy the fact that you are the envy of all us Russian learners who spend half a year on getting through a book :-)

Hmm but doesn't this depend on the content? A good intermediate or advanced textbook contains a lot of longer texts, including excerpts from literature and newspapers.

I've just registered for the Super Challenge with Italian and there's a couple of things I'd like to know:

1. Since each 50 pages of a book counts as one, what if the book has, say, 200 pages? Does that count as four books? Or, to use a more appropriate term, credits?

2. Is there some kind of conversion for ebooks? I've just checked my epubs by Salgari and most seem to have about 750 pages. If I count 15 books for every adventure of Sandokan, I'm going to feel I'm cheating...

3. I have audiobooks in Italian. I suppose that must count in some way. After all, we are talking about many hours of listening. Is there a conversion rate for that? How many hours for a unit of credit?

4. Since I made the post, I might as well make sure of one thing that's more or less common sense: as far as movies are concerned, we don't need to be picky about exact duration, do we? Within reasonable limits, that is.

I apologise in advance if these questions have been answered before. Looking back at what I wrote, it also seems a bit clinical, which is not at all my wavelength. I'm in this for fun, and fun alone.

Hi Luso! Glad you have joined!

1. Yes. A 200 page book will now count as four books.

2. As far as I can recall people count approximately 250 words as a page in an e-book, but perhaps someone
else has a better memory?

2. 90 minutes of listening equals one film.

4. You are absolutely right. As long as the film is over an hour, it still counts as a film. If you are doing
episodes of a series, which are generally about 40 minutes, you count two episodes as a film.

And being in this for the fun, and the fun alone, is exactly the attitude I am going for, so just keep that thought
:-)

I'm not doing the Super Challenge but as I have a list of 58 films (and counting) that I've watched over the past year I've added a few of my favourites.

1. The easiest way is to find a description of the print version of the book and check the number of pages. I have noticed that descriptions of number of pages for kindle books are often way off, so I always look for the print version for information. But if you can get a word count, 250 words = 1 page seems to be the simplest solution. Of course, pages vary so there's no exact science. And yes, a large book counts as a lot of book credits (I like that description), there's no cheating there!

2. As Cristina mentioned, audio counts as film credits. But if you listen while reading, you need to count one or the other.

When you tweet, if you just tweet that you read a book, the bot will automatically understand it as 50 pages, and if you tweet that you watched a film, the bot will automatically understand it as 90 minutes. But if you include the specific number of pages or minutes, the bot will add it all up for you, including fractional credits.
