So, I don't know what kind of insane person I am to be learning Czech, but I am at a very causal level (I have a
friend who is Czech and I want to be able to communicate a little with his family). I am however unsure where to turn for this lesser spoken language (I was going to go for Russian, but figured because I have someone to speak Czech to I should learn that). Can anyone recommend good resources for a more casual learner for Czech? I'm using Pimsleur for the basics, but I'm not ready to move into something like... reading Harry Potter as I usually would. How so? The Slavic languages are a very homogenic family, so any advances in one are going to translate quite easily to any other. Once you're conversational in Czech you'll find Russian a lot easier to tackle. As for Czech materials, I don't know as I haven't learned it (yet, heh). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I liked "Colloquial Czech" and the old school a "Practical Czech Course for English-speaking Students". If you want to pick up a bit of Czech with minimal amount of explicit instruction in grammar, try FSI Czech FAST for free. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
