If you want to use an audio course, I recommend "Deutsch? Warum nicht!", also from Deutsche Welle. There are also PDF's but you can work with them separately at home.

Consider also using music and eventually other native materials.

@ patrickwilken - I recently tried to purchase a Percy Jackson book off of amazon.de but none of the options would ship to the US. I was able to get a German book for free on Kindle (US Amazon) but I would like to eventually buy more German books. Any thoughts on other sites or methods?

Are you trying to buy e-books or physical books (p-books)?

The decision to resell a p-book rests with the bookstore, whether this is Amazon.de or a bookstore in Berlin. So there should be no problem buy and shipping any physical book you want from German to the USA.

The right to resell a e-book is defined by the original contract agreed between publisher and author. The bookseller doesn't have the legal right to resell the book in a region that was not originally agreed to by publisher and author. There are lots of e-books that cannot legally be sold in the US, because the rights specified in the contract do not allow this.

BTW: Do you have a Kindle? And if so is it linked to Amazon.com? If it is you'll only be able to buy books from Amazon.com, not Amazon.de. To use the latter you would have to change your account to Amazon.de. However, if you do a search on Amazon.com for "Percy Jackson" "German edition" you should see what is available.

You can also go direct to the publisher's site to buy books. They are usually sold in EPUB format, and you'll need to use the free open-source software to convert to MOBI format to use on the Kindle (v. easy).

I myself am working with intermediate German materials.

Librivox.org provides audio for two versions of part of the old Max und Moritz comics by Wilhelm Busch, though even the longer version lasts only 21 minutes. The vocabulary is fairly basic, and the readers, one male, one female, pace the narration if not as slow as Slow News then at least not as fast as "street" German.

Steve Kaufmann's LingQ has scads of beginner and intermediate texts with audio, if you want to go that route.

Of longer works for adults, the easiest for me has been Im Westen nichts Neues, although I have to read the text before I can understand the audio. I found the audiobook online January 2014 for less than 6 Euros.

Several free audio versions of various works of Kafka exist online, but I do not find them easy listening. I should add the disclaimer that Librivox.org lists several of them that I have not heard, so I might have missed an easy one.

@ Serpent - I tried Warum Nicht, it seemed a bit too beginner but I never checked out the later episodes. I will go and check them out again.

@ patrickwilkin - I tried to buy the physical book. I recently found that the US amazon has a section for native German books, they just don't have Percy Jackson (which is what I searched for initially and since it yielded no results I figured such a category didn't exist, but now I know that it does). I found one book on there that I will be purchasing. And yes, I have a Kindle that is linked to amazon. I didn't try to download from amazon.de but I figured it wouldn't work anyway due to the reasons you explained.

@ Mork in the Fiddle - I never heard of those before, I'll definitely check them out. Thanks for the enlightenment!

Yeah it starts at a very basic level, but it's a good way to refresh/systemize what Pimsleur taught you and to get more vocabulary. It's supposed to take you to B1.

Is this what you're looking for?

http://www.amazon.com/Percy-Jackson-01-Diebe-Olymp/dp/355177 5613/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?
ie=UTF8&qid=1400793406&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=percy+jackson+d eiba+in+olymp

I just purchased a handful of German readers and children's books on Amazon, all for
free. They have a lot of good stuff on there.

I don't know if you're a Potter fan, but Prime members can borrow all of the Harry
Potter kindle books for free.

I think you can buy the first book of the Percy Jackson series here: Percy Jackson, Band 1: Percy Jackson - Diebe im Olymp (German Edition)

If you search Amazon with the additional keyword in quotes "German Edition" you'll lots of German translations for authors.
