Thanks. I guess the feel for when to use the present tense for future will come with exposure.

The problem is that both can mean "plan", but different meanings of "plan". Translations usually don't match 1:1, ie. they might only be a translation of 1 meaning of a word. Monolingual dictionaries might help to clarify which meaning is intended. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

In that case, I recommend using online dictionaries, which usually have more entries than paper dictionaries. A good one for German-English is dict.cc. I didn't mean to be rude, by the way. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Looking at the entry for vorhaben on dict.cc:
http://www.dict.cc/?s=vorhaben There are numbers to the right. Do these indicate frequency of usage? Regarding paper dicts, one of the reason why they are attractive is *because* they contain fewer entries, and thus the most important ones are prioritized. I looked at another 2000 page PONS dictionary, it too has "to plan" as the first entry for vorhaben. *sigh* PS: I just wanted to convey that I am doing some sort of due diligence in general when I ask here ;) Edited by Gemuse on 13 June 2014 at 10:46am 1 person has voted this message useful |
