What languages would you say are the most useful for a tour guide in a large city - New
York for example?

Do you really mean New York City for example or do you mean New York City in particular?

Because if you really do mean for example, the question is far to broad to give a useful answer. It's going to depend on where the city is located, what types of sights it has, and which countries currently have decent finances and good connections (both in travel and media) with said city.

Then in this order:
Spanish
Mandarin
Japanese
French
Arabic

That is my guess.

So it looks like English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Mandarin and Japanese. I'm surprised to see Brazil as the single largest country-source of tourists in NYC from a non-English-speaking country in the time period quoted.

It really depends...most languages have economic value when it comes to tourism in NYC. I
see you're already learning Spanish and French, which are extremely common (valuable)
here.

I don't think anybody has mentioned Russian or Korean on this thread--I hear them a lot
here.

If you were interested in tourism in NYC (in particular), I would advise you to study
whatever language you want. As long it's not too niche (ie. Hungarian or Amharic), you
should be able to find an employer looking for your skill set.
