I have just come across something apparentely very interesting and effective to learn
Russian in Alex
Rawlings 's Berlin talk about reading comprehension . It is :
http://english.franklang.ru/
. You get a set of short stories translated sentence by sentence with accent marks and
the audio files as well ( about 2 hours ) , all for free . I have just had a quick look
at it , but it seems to be authentic russian . I just thought it was something worth
sharing . On the same page there should be some similar resources also for Italian ,
Spanish ,French ,German ,Japanese and Chinese .

It's an amazing method, yes. I've used lots of their Russian-based materials, and for example the Polish ones were crucial for my achieving a good level of comprehension quickly ahead of a trip. I've also gifted these books to more than one Russian who wants to learn/practice a language but can't get around to it.

Yes, it's very good. The learning curve is nice. I worked my way through "Stories from my Childhood" and am now into "Stories from my School Life" (in Russian).
It's a real shame that the webmaster who put these stories online f**ked up all the special characters in most languages.
