I was brushing up my Swahili after not speaking it for years. I have listened to Assimil
Swahili multiple times and have found it very helpful. I would now like to listen to some audio-books or pod-casts or children stories. I am having difficulty finding any. Alternatively is there a radio station or news commentary or something similar. Anything to listen to would be very useful. Please help. The "Deutsche Welle", the "staatliche Auslandsrundfunk der Bundesrepublik Deutschland has a Swahili department with audio.

Adding to Cabaires recommendation of Deutsche Welle, DW has a series of "radionovelas" in Swahili (plus Amharic, Portuguese, French and English) with downloadable mp3's and pdf transcripts available. The topics are many and varied. The audio is conversational and not overly complicated. Each series has 10 episodes between 10 to 12 minutes long. It is also possible to go to the English site and get the pdf's of the English to make your own bilingual texts if needed.
DW is ending its Swahili service to Africa on January 1, 2015, along with Portuguese and Amharic as well. French will be dramatically cut back. Get these while you can. Edited by iguanamon on 20 July 2014 at 1:28pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |
