Many of us are aware of the American FSI courses posted for free on various websites. The courses are in the public
domain, and most are incredibly dated (which doesn't mean they are not useful). I am interested in learning more about updated editions. Has anyone gone looking for them? I am looking into contacting the FSI directly. Perhaps they are available just not easily so. The other question surrounds the non-American equivalent organizations to the FSI. The Canadians have a Centre for Language Training which appears to be their organization with the similar mission of educating diplomats in a language before posting. Surely the British, Australians French, Spanish (or Hispanophone Country), Brazilians, and German's have one. I simply don't know the names of the organizations or agencies so searching for them in English is difficult. It might be really great to find more recourses if they too release them into the public domain, or could be convinced to. Thoughts, ideas? -JohnPaul 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I don't know if there is an equivalent ruling in the UK or Europe that works made by public servants are public domain. I've noticed that frequently in the UK these works are sold by the government. However if you wanted to spend some time searching you could use this resource list to begin your search.

Peace Corps material as hosted at this site founded by an ex-PC volunteer might also be handy. The primers usually date from after the Cold War and some have a bit of audio (e.g. Kyrgyz Language Lessons, Malagasy Course)
