Well. I have decided to take my Spanish to a higher level. Recently I have been using LR
plus Subs2srs as an method. Spanish is the love of my life but I am a fickle lover. I delayed starting this logbook a month ago to see if I could finally be faithful. Well I have been, which is mostly due to My language partner who is as persistent as a fly. Recently I have way more time on my hand which means I can dedicate 8+ hours to Spanish. A week ago I began LRing for 4 hours at a time plus Spanish/english exchanges. I know that LR works because after that week my partner noted that my Spanish speaking had improved. At this time I would say that my level is mid to high intermediate in some areas (reading and writing) where as speaking and listening lack. With LR plus subs2srs I should be able to improve my listening and with continued Spanish conversations I should be able to improve my speaking. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Today's Stats
LR Book: El Principito Pages:54 Time:6 hours I decided to start with a short book just to feel an sense of accomplishment. It takes me so long to LR for some reason. The audiobook is only 52 minutes but because I was not familar with the book I would read a couple of chapters then read the L2 text with the audio of those chapters then I would do the 3rd step which is read the L1 while listening to the L2 audio. subs2srs Series: Aguila Roja Time:1 hour Reviewed the cards listen to the same audio until I could make out every word. Decided to up the number of new cards to 50 a day. Then I watched the part of the show that I had reviewed. Actually I watched a bit more just to see what I could understand all of this without any subtitles. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Cool, another subs2srs user! I'm very interested in following your log. How long have you been doing subs2srs? Are the cards sticking reasonably well? Have you run into the first big pile-up of cards around (say) the 3-week mark? 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

No I just been doing the subs2srs for 4 days (today
is day 5) I am at 150 cards the first few days were more about seeing how it worked. I read over your blog as well as on learnlang blog by sprachprofi "understand your favorite tv series in 30 days". I was really impressed with the results. Also having the how to for subs2srs was the best so thank you for that. I plan on continuing to watch your progress. As far as are they sticking I would say that they are once I finish my review I watch the show and I can make out the show which is great because they speak unbelievable fast and the shorten alot of words. OK, cool! One thing to watch out for: Anki reviews are easy at first, but after a couple of weeks, they really start to pile up. It's very easy to "bite off more than you can chew." Usually, the rule of thumb is that if you lean N cards per day, you'll ultimately wind up reviewing 5N or 10N cards per day. So if you're learning 50 cards per day, you might wind up reviewing 250 to 500 cards per day at some point, which is a huge number. Fortunately, there are ways to fight this: 1. Try to fail very few cards. Instead, suspend them or choose "Hard". Don't fight with bad cards. 2. Suspend or delete ruthlessly, both up front and when reviewing. If you find yourself starting at 100 Anki reviews and saying "Yuck", trying making a game of it: Can you suspend/delete 25 of those cards? 50? 3. Use the "Easy" button a lot. This will space cards out quickly. Deleting cards feels really great—you're taking total control of your deck and your learning experience, and you're trusting that if something's important, you'll see another example of it soon. It's sort of like cleaning your closet and getting rid of all the ugly, bad-fitting clothes. :-)
That's really cool! I'm seeing much the same effect with Avatar. I can actually watch the first 10 minutes or so and just understand 2/3rds of the dialog in Spanish. This is a little weird, since I barely know any Spanish. And yes, my thanks go out to all those people who transcribe accurate subtitles. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

That is sound advice. I agree. I am thinking I should
cut it down. At least when it start overwhelming me. It really is an refreshing experience I am excited yo see how far this method takes me. If I can just watch the entire Águila Roja I would be happy for the improvement. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

LR Time: 2 hours Book: The little Prince Reread in L1 and L2. Tomorrow I will start 100 years of solitude. To anyone who is looking for bilingual text there are plenty that are made and most link up well. Spanish and English. Some with a little french and Italian. The website is www.novelas.rodriguezalvarez.com/index.php/listado- novelas Subs2srs Time:1 hour Reviewed 70 cards. Nothing to really report. The cards are really helping me enjoy the show. I love that part. Being able to watch a great series in the target language without being totally lost feels good. But at this part I can only watch the first 10- 15 minutes.
