Not sure this is the right section to post this in, but here it goes.
I've been wanting to learn Faroese for a very long time now but its material (or rather, the lack thereof), is very off-putting. So my question is, do you know any course/book/anything that gives a good introduction (at least up until an A2) to the Faroese language? Thank you. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

There isn't much out there for Faroese and most of it was published on the Faroe Islands. You can find some

On Courses
1. I was able to get my hands on a textbook/grammar set that seems pretty good. It's called Faroese: A Language Course for Beginners by Jonathan Adams and Hjalmar P. Petersen. They are also nice enough to have all the audio available on their website: http://www.stidin.fo/FaroeseCourse/ http://www.stidin.fo/FaroeseCourse/default.htm These are supposed to supplement a book but you will need to e-mail the publisher and negotiate the shipping method, if it is still available. I think my acquaintance has scanned this book. I have seen the copy of the book somewhere in my external HD in the past. Very brief introduction that explains pronunciation (unfortunately no sound files) and gives a few simple phrases. http://www.ielanguages.com/faroese.html On Summer courses Some years ago, the University of Faroe Islands was offering Summer Courses for international students. I am not sure if they still exist, but you can contact them if you are interested in. If I am not wrong, my Faroese dictionary was published by that University, but I don’t remember as it is not with me anymore. http://setur.fo/en/ On Grammar Aside from that there's also a more traditional and comprehensive-looking grammar/reader: An Introduction to Modern Faroese by W.B. Lockwood that seems well regarded. The version I had access to it was published in 1964, but perhaps you may find a “modern” one. Unfortunately there are rarely Faroese subtitles to help learners’ of Faroese. http://kvf.fo/ I do believe this was the largest newspaper in the Faroe Islands at the time I was looking for Faroese resources many years ago. http://dimma.fo/ This is another Faroese newspaper. http://www.sosialurin.fo/main.cfm/ It contains information about Faroe Islands in English and some pages in Faroese. You can try comparing them as one bilingual resource (English to Faroese or the other way, depending on your methods and techniques chosen). http://www.framtak.com/ During the time I was taking a look at Faroese, there were more websites available for free (A1 level). Unfortunately they are no longer available. I don’t think Faroese language is in the group of the most difficult languages I have ever seen. What makes it difficult is perhaps the lack of good materials (textbooks, audiobooks, dictionaries etc). Good luck in your studies.
