Background: Starting with some rudimentary knowledge of Spanish. I took it in high
school and college. I have a few hundred words of vocabulary, and understand the
basic verb tenses (present tense only) and sentence structure.
Current plan: Complete FSI Basic and Pimsleur courses simultaneously.
Timeframe: 6 months to complete simultaneous courses. Rest of year devoted to other
resources and additional study.
WEEK ONE UPDATE:
Below is a listing of my activities for the week. I average about 2 hours a day on
language learning.
FSI Basic Spanish: Lessons 1-3 (three times each)
Pimsleur Spanish 1: Lessons 1-11 (with some repeats)
Watched 6 episodes of Destinos
Made Anki decks for FSI lessons and did these daily
Spent a couple of hours on Duolingo
Notes/Thoughts:
1. Started strong, but felt like I was slacking a bit over the weekend.
2. Vocabulary is coming pretty easily.
3. I backed off on the Rosetta Stone and Duolingo I was previously doing. Rosetta
Stone moves way too slowly. Duolingo is better, but it is too random. I would much
prefer some usable sentences as examples, and not about turtles drinking milk. I am
not completely writing these resources off, but I will only be using them
supplementally.
4. FSI Basic seems to be a really good course.

on language learning.
FSI Basic Spanish: Lesson 4 (three times)
Pimsleur Spanish 1: Lessons 12-15 (with some repeats)
Watched 2 episodes of Destinos
Did Anki decks for FSI lessons daily
Notes:
Took a two day wilderness kayak trip and wasn't able to study those days
Hope to average two lessons of FSI a week until it gets too hard
