Week 11
New yardstick objective: Call up a motorcycle rental place in Denmark and, completely in Danish, inquire as to price, payment method, insurance, deposit, available selection of bikes, reservation procedure, helmet rental, validity of my American motorcycle license and whether or not I’d be allowed to take the machine to Norway. I figure if I can get all that across clearly, and then completely understand everything that comes back (provided, of course, the person on the other end doesn’t switch immediately to English), I’ll be ready to go over there again. Week 14
I know I don't need to be a member of a forum in order to learn languages. Before I discovered HTLAL almost five years ago, I was making good progress studying German all by myself. But the people here proved to be such a source of help and support, I began to wonder how I ever managed without them. The technical deficiencies of HTLAL (outside of its penchant for periodically disappearing) don't bother me that much, as I'm pretty simple and mostly just post stuff I write in my target languages. Better software and more features would be great, but for me the attraction has always been the presence of the people I respect and admire, folks like Iversen, Josquin, Doitsujin and Fasulye, to name a few. To me, they are the forum, and I want to be where they are. I'm just not sure where that is right now. ich bin immer noch hier und lese deinen Log! Wegen gesundheitlicher Probleme war ich 3 Wochen inaktiv, aber jetzt bin ich wieder fit und lerne auch wieder meine skandinavischen Sprachen.
