First month is gone. I've been consistent through my study and am proud of it. I don't feel thunderstrucked by the difficulty of the language. Although the vocabulary is tough I can recognise and formulate basic sentences. This is probably because of my consistency in the study and it motivates me to keep the pace.

Recently I brought together a couple of friends who hadn't met each other before. We share 4 languages, namely English, Spanish, Portuguese (OK I'm cheating, what I speak is a non-native Galician) and German. It's fun! We swift languages whenever we feel like and it motivates all of us to study further. Besides, the three of us have at least some knowledge of one further language. I have simple conversations and message chatting with them both in German from time to time. My grammar is terrible but I feel I'm improving and am always surprised to understand them. This also motivates me!

Apart from German, Portuguese has definitely become a useful language to me. I sometimes hang out with people who speak this language. Some of them don't speak English very well. It's relatively easy for me to catch up the language as long as they don't speak fast as hell. I'd like to study Portuguese but have really no time. I'm however thinking in reading and listening to stuff in Portuguese and thus having plenty of input while forgetting about grammar and serious study. This way I may be able to reach a conversational level soon. I may have it anyway by now! Yesterday evening I spoke Galician to a Brazilian guy. I filled in some words for their Portuguese counterparts. The guy thought I spoke a little Portuguese and had a 'beautiful' accent!

Anyway, these are the results for German so far. I will try to speed up the pace a little bit next week.

This is an update for last week study since the website was down for some days.

I only studied 2.5 hours!! This is well below my average of around 4 - 5 hours a week.
It looks like it will be no better this week. I'm not slacking! I haven't been often
at home lately so there's no time to study.

There is one area I have improved though. I wrote a relatively long text and submitted
it to Lang-8. It was taugh to write in German and make sense of it ;) I was surprised
I didn't make as many mistakes as I had thought. The text was actually pretty good.
Another thing I did last week was counting from 0 on in German while sporting. That
way I get used to German numbers. I picked the idea from this forum and deem it good.
I count while running and also the series at the gym. Sometimes I even count the
strokes while swimming!

5th week results
- Menschen A1.1 textbook: 9/12 lessons studied
- Menschen A1.1 book of exercises: 7/12 lessons studied
- Das Idealpaar: 5/15 stories read
- New vocabulary in Anki: 149 flashcards this week (687 in total)
- Time of study: 2h 30min this week (21h 53min in total)

I merely studied 2 hours last week. OK, this is bad :( I knew it was going to happen
though. There're a lot of (good) things happening and I am barely at home.

No worries. It is all planned! I think I'll still have the desired level of German by
the end of the stated 4 months period. My time of study will probably drop to an
average of 2 hours a week until the end of August. I expect it to increase again to 5
hours a week in September. This should be enough to achieve a good basis of German at
the end of the last fourth month.

6th week results
- Menschen A1.1 textbook: 9/12 lessons studied
- Menschen A1.1 book of exercises: 8/12 lessons studied
- Das Idealpaar: 5/15 stories read
- New vocabulary in Anki: 7 flashcards this week (694 in total)
- Time of study: 2h 8min this week (24h 01min in total)

Great work Dagane, no doubt you'll reach your goal of Basic German in the allotted time and
derive a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction in doing so. Looking forward to a to-and-
fro auf Deutsch when you're done, if you're keen.

Thank you for your support rtickner! I hope I do achieve my goal. And of course
I'll be please to keep a conversation in Deutsch once I've done it ;)

This week has been even worse than the previous one regarding German. It has been a
great week in many respects though. I expect to increase my time of study slightly but
steadily during the next three weeks.

I'm on holidays! I'm spending most of August in Spain. Home sweet home! Although I
miss London(ers) in some ways I'm happy to be here in others. Anyway, I took two books
along. One of them is Das Idealpaar which is the book of short stories I am
reading. The other one is Grammatik Intensivtrainer A1 by Langenscheidt. The
latter is a valuable addition to my initial set of resources. I've started with it
already. This all means that I expect to reinforce my vocabulary and already adquired
skills. No new lessons in the following days.

8th week results
- Menschen A1.1 textbook: 9/12 lessons studied
- Menschen A1.1 book of exercises: 9/12 lessons studied
- Grammatik Intensivtrainer A1 3/37 lessons studied
- Das Idealpaar: 5/15 stories read
- New vocabulary in Anki: 33 flashcards this week (739 in total)
- Time of study: 2h 23min this week (27h 31min in total)

My tablet isn't working. That means I'm unable to use Anki for the time being. I'll try
to get it fixed today.

I visited friends in Madrid for most of last week so I didn't study much. I was able to use
Anki before Wednesday though. Out of curiosity, we had a couple of conversations in English
and my friends were very surprised. Apparently my accent's turned very British when speaking
English. That's quite funny because most British people think I'm definitely south European.
In England, neither British nor Spaniards regard me as Spanish at first though.

Anyway, last week wasn't a great one for German. Mind you, I'm really enjoying Das
Idealpaar
. I love this book!

9th week results
- Menschen A1.1 textbook: 9/12 lessons studied
- Menschen A1.1 book of exercises: 9/12 lessons studied
- Grammatik Intensivtrainer A1 5/37 lessons studied
- Das Idealpaar: 7/15 stories read
- New vocabulary in Anki: TBC flashcards this week (TBC in total)
- Time of study: 1h 57min this week (29h 28min in total)

Edit 20/08/2015
My tablet is fixed and I am now able of using Anki again. I didn't take my laptop along with
me on holidays. This is why I use Anki on my tablet. However, this way I don't know how many
new flashcards I study.

Tomorrow will be the last day of my summer holidays. I am enjoying these days so much I
barely hit the books. This may mean I will study harder from now on.

Although I am able to use Anki again I haven't been able to see how many new flashcards I
have learnt this week yet. I estimate their number around 70.

10th week results

- Das Idealpaar: 7.5/15 stories read
- New vocabulary in Anki: TBC flashcards this week (TBC in total)
- Time of study: 1h 54min this week (31h 22min in total)
