When I 'speak' foreign languages in my dream I go through all the trouble of searching for words, but I'm also happy that most of the times my proficiency is higher than when I try to come up with sentences while being 'awake'. I usually start dreaming on a language at a B1 stage.

I have dreams in French from time to time and yet I have not ever studied it. It's funny, because I haven't ever had any dreams in English, either, but people speaking French appear in my

I dream quite regularly in a variety of languages (yesterday I was struggling with Toki Pona by a swimming pool, for example, and this morning I recall discussing cryptic puzzles in German with an antiques shop owner - all quite bizarre!)
Unfortunately, my language level whilst dreaming always matches my waking state, so I experience much the same range of difficulties whilst speaking. I also find the trigger is usually some type of extensive input/output just before going to bed, or a subconscious worry about tomorrow that bubbles up whilst sleeping and transforms itself into a particular language or person. 1 person has voted this message useful | |
