Assimil lesson 1!! There is... a lot to take in. Have to master pinyin. Have to master the
tones. Have to play the dialog multiple times to make sure I hear everything clearly. But
because I'm not familiar with pinyin and tones, after a moment (once it's out of my
auditory memory) I've forgotten some of the nuances already. :/ Then I have to repeat it
out loud to myself several times to work on the phonetics. While I'm doing this it's a bit
hard to focus on the meaning of the text. So that's gonna be another pass or two. Good
thing the lessons are short at first.

At first glance I can't say I find anything particularly harrowing. It's just a lot of new
things, much like driving a car for the first time.

I think for now I'm gonna keep it simple (basically the routine described). I could go
further by throwing every sentence into anki, but I'll let the built-in repetition in
Assimil take care of that for me (hopefully). I could also record myself speaking each
sentence and do shadowing. But that's a whole big production I don't want to do right now.

Assuming I can get a sense of what these lessons mean and what they sound like, that'll be
a good start. Then I can go back and refine weak points if needed.
