I finally caved in and bought a $60 smartphone ("3.5 screen) after having one too many issues with my old phone.
EDIT: Yes, it has Android. I honestly didn't pay attention when I bought it.
I've never had a smartphone before, and I don't get Wifi coverage at home.
However, I've read that it's entirely possible to use it offline, as long as you sync decks manually through USB.
Does anyone know how that works?
Is Anki so good that it would justify my creating decks on the computer then transferring them onto my smartphone for review?
I've always been very skeptical. I used some sort of disorganized paper SRS, and at the time, it served me well. I haven't reviewed anything in over two years though, so I'm trying to create a new system.

3.5" is big enough for Anki. At least for single words or short sentences.
Without syncing I find it cumbersome to extend decks continuously, I rather add a few
hundred words in one go.
But it is possible to use the internet connection of your computer with your
smartphone, either over USB or over WiFi or BT, depending on what's available and
more comfortable to use for you. This functionality probably doesn't work out of the
box, but there ought to be apps for it.
On the other hand, "I don't get Wifi coverage at home" is easily fixable with 20
bucks, just buy a cheap access point.

I don't even have a smartphone :) Works on my Nokia just fine.
If you have a cable Internet connection, there's free software for creating a wifi point that works whenever your connection is running.
