Unfortunately, there is no English version of Assimil's Perfectionnement allemand. So
what is the alternative to it?

Hard to say, but as a suggestion:
Linguaphone Advanced Expensive, unless you can get it second hand on ebay.
Living Language Ultimate Advanced - now out of print.
Deutsch Plus 2 - again out of print - videos on YouTube.

I agree with Elexi's recommendations and would add the following comments:
Living Language Beyond the Basics German:
The "Beyond the Basics" course provides more-or-less the same level of instruction as the "Ultimate Advanced" course. While it, too, is out of print, at least it is still available via online booksellers are more reasonable prices than the latter.
Linguaphone Advanced German:
Linguaphone U.S.A. often offers "Refurbished" courses at about half-price. The textbooks are new, not used, copies. Be aware that this course is entirely in German!
Deutschewelle
The Deutschewelle website offers free online language training. I appreciate that the learning experience is not the same as working with compact course materials such as Assimil.
FSI Basic German
Yes, some of the vocabulary no longer as relevant as it was at the time this course was published. However, the more advanced lessons are definitely within the range of Assimil's Perfectionnement course.
Assimil Perfectionnement Allemand
If you are considering Assimil Perfectionnement Allemand, then you are a serious student. This means that, sooner or later, you will have to start using "native materials". One possibility would be to work with Assimil Perfectionnement Allemand, in conjunction with a Grammar, as "equivalent to native materials". I appreciate that this would be arduous, but that is, effectively, what Linguaphone expects of the students of their advanced courses.
