I went to East Timor over Christmas and New Year with a friend. We got by mostly on Indonesian because we studied it at school for a few years. When I was over there, a lot of it came flooding back. Neither of us spoke Portugese. WE learnt a bit of Tetun but not much. Fascinating place and great people. They were really friendly, helpful and generous, with a great sense of humour. Thanks for the resources.

Tetun is a really interesting language although few good resources are available. I've heard that the Lonely Planet East Timor Phrasebook is one of the best Tetun resources around.

Dili Institute of Technology's Language Centre has some very good resources for learning Tetun. Their webpage is http://www.TetunDIT.tl .
