Thank you very much. I am so glad I won the prize. I would like to travel to the USA in
July because of my job. Will I be able to see my cousin Ann in Dallas? I know the tour
only goes through Houston... Also I would really like to go swimming in the ocean. I
hope there will be time for that.

En espanol:

Muchas gracias.

(Sorry if someone's already translated it into Finnish.)

Corrections welcome!

(This is a fun sentence. You could say waarvan de gewichtigheid natuurlijk totaal niet tot mij door drong, waarvan ik de gewichtigheid uiteraard niet begreep or de gewichtigheid ervan begreep ik natuurlijk helemaal niet.)

The bits in brackets are where I had difficulty so I don't think it sounds right.

It’s not bad at all. Pretty much everything is there but the sentence order could be improved to make it flow a bit more naturally. I would translate it as:

The use of the infinites ‘kijken’ and ‘zien’ doesn’t sound quite right to me so I would maybe choose to say ik keek vanuit de hal zijn kamer in en zag hem instead.

I guess it's up to me to correct the Esperanto and German...

Hallo Lisa,
hier ist eine Postkarte von meiner Stadt. Sie ist nicht sehr gross, aber
sie ist schön (geil = horny; avoid using it even if some adolescents use it for
'great'; doesn't work in this context). Erzähl mir mehr über deine Stadt.
Wie viele Leute wohnen dort? Was ist besonders toll an deiner Stadt?
Wohin gehst du abends?

schön. Bitte erzähl mir mehr von deiner Stadt. Wie viele Leute wohnen da? Was ist

Liebe Grüße,

Mit freundlichen Grüßen is way too formal, would fit with the intermediate text. All
correct apart from this.

Vielen Dank.

All technically correct, but Viele Grüße is too informal for a person you don't have
personal contact with. And I much prefer "Wegen meiner Arbeit möchte ich im Juli...",
otherwise the reasoning doesn't work.

habe.

Firstly, I don't know whether this is my Russian influencing me, but I am not
sure whether it may be better to say "man hat mich ausgeschlossen" instead of actually
using the passive. Also, I decided to say "seine(r) Lampe" when describing the memory
because it somehow makes it sound more personal to me, which I think is the idea in the
passage :]

Also, when thinking about how to translate "Father is dying" I initially (and for some
reason immediately) thought of the expression "Vater liegt im Sterben" - would that
have done as well? I didn't go for it in the end because it sounds too formal to my
ears.

All that is fine.

Kudos to all participants! Well done!

Now something for you to criticize...

Why don't make a category in this forum for activities like this. To post some works in any language to be corrected.

Good idea, mauselmaucs! I second your idea. Is anyone else interested?
