almost perfect!^^ the word signifiance doesn't exist(however people will understand what you mean if you use this word)

A couple more corrections, let's see if you agree with me tornus..

Good job Sprachprofi! And thanks for the German correction... I'll be careful with "geil" from now on, didn't know the original meaning!

ok i've forgot "ensoleillé";"un";" étais" and "silencieuse" but i don't agree with the other mistakes, it's just another way to say the same thing

and i agree to create a "practice board" on the forum

Good idea, mauselmaucs! I second your idea. Is anyone else interested?

I think the Multilingual Lounge is fine for this. I even posted another translation
exercise there a while ago:

I think it does, as you say, fit in the Multilingual Lounge. Still, though, I would
support creating a new forum solely for translations to be corrected, since I think we
could easily come up with a whole subforum worth of content and it would be nice to keep
it from pushing the current threads to other pages.

We could have a daily translation challenge!

I'll try the beginner's text for Persian, Romanian, and Russian, but I think I'll have to look up a couple words... Corrections are very welcome, of course!

Hi Lisa,
Here is a postcard of my town. It is not very big, but it is nice. Please tell me more about your town. How many people live in it? What is particularly nice about your town? Where do you go in the evenings?

John

ROMANIAN
Bună Lisa,
Aici o carte poştală de oraşul meu. Nu-i foarte mare, dar e frumos. Unde mergi seara?

John

Oh dear, I'm afraid that these are simply brimming with errors. These are my three weakest languages at the moment, so I'm not surprised... I'm so sorry for mangling these wonderful languages, and thank you in advance again for correcting my attempts.

Bitte, sag mir mal darüber deine Stadt. Wieviele Leute wohnen dort? Was ist besonders lieb darüber deine Stadt? Wo gehst du am Abends?

Intermediate: (answer to having won a tour through the USA)
Thank you very much. I am so glad I won the prize. I would like to travel to the USA in July because of my job. Will I be able to see my cousin Ann in Dallas? I know the tour only goes through Houston... Also I would really like to go swimming in the ocean. I hope there will be time for that.
Yours sincerely,

Vielen dank!

Salve Lisa,

hic est litterapictura (???) meius urbis. Est non maxime, sed est gratus. Gratiäs ägo, dice me plus de tuä urbe. quot civitätes vivet ibi?

**must finish later....late for Latin class LOL*** (the Latin took me way longer than I thought it would -- I hardly ever translate into Latin from English!)

Here is my attempt at Korean (with fewer dictionary lookups than I feared I'd need).

Since Korean has speech levels, honorifics, etc. I opted for different styles for the two texts. I wrote the Beginner text using the informal polite level with very little honorific use. I wrote the Intermediate text using the formal polite speech level with humble/honorific forms used where needed.

Corrections are VERY welcome, especially if they include an explanation.

Beginner:

Intermediate:

(NOTE: The conversion of the names was based on Google Translate since it usually does a fair job with items like that. Personally, I would have opted for something like 두봐 for "Dubois" but I just took what it listed.)

EDIT: Various self-corrections, including a verb I forgot to conjugate.

I hardly knew my father. When he died at the age of 75, I wasn't yet 10 years old. I can remember the day very well. It was a sunny day in September and there was an unusual atmosphere in the house. I can see myself sitting all alone on a chair in the big room; a wasp was flying around but other than that the house was completely quiet. One of my older brothers had said: "Father is dying, but you should stay here". Everybody was with him, just I was "too small" again and therefore excluded. I don't know what made me more sad, this condition or my father's death, whose significance I of course didn't understand in the least.
One image of him impressed me the most: looking at his room from the corridor and seeing him sitting at his desk in the shine of a lamp. It was like seeing a light at the end of a tunnel.

This time only Bokmål :)

Same as above, corrections are very welcome.
