I couldn't log in so I thought I might have been banned for whatever reason.
I wasn't sure though, so I reregistered twice and twice I was banned.

Using a ? for a name and referring to siomotteikiru in the third person in your posts was rather insulting to our respective intelligences.

As for me, you are one of the persons who had influenced me in the most positive way. I improved my English listening, reading and speaking a great deal. I, too, have never learned how to write this language with rather un-orthodox orthography.

The biggest problem for me, at least, is to find the stuff that "I am passionately in love with", in any language. But, there, indeed, are so many novels and pieces of literature I haven't read yet, so exploring them in order to find something beautiful to my taste would be the most enjoyable task. I noticed also that voice and background music (if it is provided) are of the same importance as plot of the novel.

Back to the actual discussion:

I would like to try out the Listening-Reading method as described in the first post for a language that I don't know yet. However, there's one huge problem with it: I have never seen a novel-length text (as suggested) with a word-by-word translation (as suggested). Can anybody help me out?

I did translate some into Polish.

From English, French and Japanese.

You can have a look at how it was done. I posted a link somewhere (perhaps in this thread) to English-Polish "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll.

Here's the link:

It's in doc format, should be read in Word 2000.

And there are some translated into Russian as well.

And I've seen The Hebrew Bible and The Greek New Testament.

Word per word translation is not necessary.
Depends how closely the languages are related.
