I am looking for some audiobooks of western literature translated into Mandarin. I've been looking for anything online, but haven't had any luck. I am really interested to try the reading-learning method with Mandarin, just to see how it works especially with the characters/writing system.

Would I be best starting off with a book of the bible? that's the only thing I've seen that it would be possible with that would be somewhat interesting to me.

Listening-Reading should work reasonably well with characters - Siomettekiru, who posted about it, uses it for Japanese. There are Chinese audiobooks (有聲書) of western literature, such as 納尼亞傳奇 有聲書 7 册 (C.S.Lewis - The Chronicles of Narnia). Sites such as eslitebooks seem to sell it (this isn't an endorsement - I've never bought anything from them), and it can also be found online easily, though probably not legitimately, so I won't link to that. I can't imagine that there are no other books in Western Literature at least as readily available - there may even be some legal and free ones.   The above is just the result of less than 5 minutes of searching by someone (me) who speaks absolutely no Chinese.

If you want to start with the bible, that's your choice; it may well be the easiest legal free audiobook for you to acquire. Try to make sure that the audio and text are for the same edition, and relatively contemporary.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had been looking for specific books, but still wasn't having luck.   I think I am uncovering somethings after looking for a few hours, but I thought it might be helpful for some folks to have a list of Chinese names for some western books.   Some of these may be incorrect, as I am doing my best to figure out without knowing much Mandarin. Hope it is helpful to someone.

Authors:
Jules Verne

Around the World in 80 Days
Chronicles of Narnia
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry   Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Anna Karenina
War and Peace
The Brothers Karamazov

WoYouXian (Simplified) has some texts of books both foreign and Chinese (not audio). If you click on the Foreign (外國)section, you should see some. Yes, this may not be audiobooks (as per the topic of the thread, but it's still useful with audiobooks as long as the same translation is used.

Examples:

Crime and punishment: English Text Chinese text
Great Expectations/大前程: English Text Chinese Text
English text Chinese text
1984: English text Chinese text
Don Quixote: English Text Chinese text
Jane Eyre: English text Chinese text
Les Miserables: English text Chinese Text

kuwang.com (Simplified) Has foreign books.

Kealist: for major books like the ones you listed, the fastest way to find the official title in another language is to look on wikipedia, find the English page on the book, then select the page in your target language in the links at the left.
