A few of my friends and I have decided to learn Romanian. I do not know anything about this language, so if anyone would maybe give me some advice about how to go about learning Romanian that would be greatly appreciated.

Romanian is possibly the language I'm most frightened to learn in case comprehension of the words destroys the beauty of the sounds. Perhaps, like French it is a language that increases in beauty the more one learns.
I'd certainly like some advice on learning this language if you're offering, I did make some attempt a couple of years ago but didn't find many materials so I gave up, at least temporarily. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Thanks for the offer, but my friends backed out and I'm currently studying French quite vigorously. I don't want to attempt another language until I can speak French perfectly, so it might be a while until I get to Romanian. Thanks again, though.

He seemed to be interested so might as well post some ideas for materials. I'm curious too.
The only free book that I know of is this rather scary looking grammar: http://www.seelrc.org/webliography/romanian.ptml That site also has grammars of other Eastern European and Slavic languages. However it appears they are more aimed at people trying to compare grammatical features of the said languages rather than self-taught beginners. Arsene, yes I'm definitely interested! Actually if you, or Fraz could give me any recommendations on Romanian music I'd be grateful, music is always a great inspiration in language learning for me.

I just put a random Romanian word into Google and see what comes out, - preferably texts with diacritics, but if the subject is interesting enough I may choose to read even texts using the ghastly 'simplified' spelling that is so common on the internet. There is no shortage of books in Romanian, but they are rarely exported to other countries.
