According to several sources I've found while traversing the interwebs, Victor Lustig - the man who "sold" the Eiffel Tower twice - was fluent in five languages. I've done a bit of searching, but came seem to find out which languages they were. He was from Bohemia, and worked in Paris and New York, so they could be English (a definite), French, Czech, possibly German. Interesting guy, anyway.

At the time, German was the official language in Bohemia (and in some parts Czech) and his name is German, so I guess he very likely spoke German.
