Oriental Culture Enterprise on 13-17 Elizabeth Street, 2nd floor New York City is located in Chinatown (shocker) off Canal street and parallel to Mott St (a few streets over) has probably the best chinese learning and dictionary sections I've ever seen. They have a huge selection of courses with multiple levels for the courses for english speakers learning how to read, write, and speak mandarin and cantonese. The shop also has courses for cantonese to mandarin and vice versa. I saw courses for chinese speakers to learn Japanese, German, and other languages too.
The shop also has a dvd/vcd section which was only ok. (There are a few stores in the area that have a much better selection). As well as carrying stationery and chinese paintings/prints.
The store also has a pretty good chinese bookstore covering a wide range of subjects. The bookstore was probably bigger then most western bookstores in malls in the US and Australia. Pretty impressive. If I wind up commuting to New York I'm planning on using the time on the train to listen to my courses on my ipod and learn how to read (I'm not going to learn how to write, too time consuming and I very rarily write anything in English while living in an english speaking country), so I'll be going to this store often. No need to spend time looking elsewhere for courses and books when I can find anything I need in one place. I think this store even carries chinese electronic dictionairies
