지원씨,
요새는 방학이라도 '한국어시강' 별로없어서 자주 못공부해요. 일주일에 두시간밖에 안해요. 근데이번여름하고 내년에 한국에 있을거얘요. 그래서 다행이 많이 배울거같아요. 내생각에는 언제나 문법 하고 단어 문제 있을것같아요. 구체적으로, 지금, '며'가 좀 복잡한데요... "한국어시강"이 뭐죠? 한국어 시간? 한국어 강의? 오.. 한국에 한국어 공부하러 가는 거에요, 아니면 그냥 놀러 가는 거에요? 한국에 있으면 항상 한국어 사용하게 되서 언어실력은 많이 좋아질 꺼에요. "며"는 "숙제는 나중에 한다며 낮잠을 자고 있다." 같은 문장에서 사용하는 거를 물어보는 거에요? "고"도 예문을 주면 더 설명하기가 쉬울 것 같아요... 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

글쎄요... 과연 그럴까요? 내 경험으로는 한국에 있는 동안 내 실력에 젤 큰 도움이 뭐냐하면 바로 티비였어요.. 한국사람들이 외국인들 한국어를 할 줄 모른다고 생각하고 가게에 들어가든가 식당에서 먹든가, 한국인 직원들이 주로 영어로 말 걸거나 아무말 하지 않아요. 특히 슈퍼마켓이나 편의점에서요.. 말을 하나도 안 하고 계산대를 손가락으로 가리키기만 하더라구요. 그러니까 한국에 가서 공부하려면 꼭 언어교환 같은 걸 찾으세요. 아니면.. 한국말 실력을 늘리기가 좀 힘들던데요. The example I wrote means something like "saying that he'd do his homework later, he is taking an afternoon nap"..

며 is a particle that denotes the state of simultaneous processes. Usually it's a shortened form of 면서.
e.g. 아저씨는 그림을 그리며 강아지를 보살폈다. (The man looked after the puppy while drawing a picture). The same sentence can be said as 아저씨는 그림을 그리면서 강아지를 보살폈다. Let's analyse the example I gave you earlier. 숙제는 나중에 한다며 낮잠을 자고 있다. homework(topic marker) + later + to say that one does(simultaneous process marker) + afternoon nap + to sleep + (continuous tense). I think the problem cluster is 한다며. It seems that this sentence should mean "He is taking an afternoon nap while doing homework later." However, in this case, the verb root would be "하-" not "한다-". The "-ㄴ다-" connotes that the person is reporting. But there are places 며 and 면서 will give a different nuance. This is usually when they are used with nouns. e.g. 1. 나는 가수이며 배우이다. 2. 나는 가수이면서 배우이다. The first sentence is just a plain statement, whereas the second one contains the element of unexpectedness. Therfore the likely translations would be: 1. I am a singer as well as an actor (ie I am a singer and at the same time I am also an actor). 2. I am a singer, yet I am also an actor (surprisingly). I hope this helps to clarify your doubt...
