In İstiklal Caddesi in central İstanbul, there are several good bookshops. There is a good department in Mephisto's, though it is not a purely language bookshop. I also found one on the street purely devoted to German.

The Pandora Bookstore just off (?) Istiklal is pretty good for Turkish books on all sorts of topics (not foreign languages, though), but it's real value to me is via its website, which has a great selection, easy search function, etc. Also, it seems to charge less for shipping (to the US, where I live) than some of the other online Turkish bookdealers. Its website is at: http://www.pandora.com.tr/

The store itself is located at Buyukparmakkapi Sok. 3 in Beyoglu.

If you're still wandering around in Istanbul, is the Medya Kitabevi still in the Alhamra Pasaji on Istiklal? (It's a great Kurdish-oriented bookstore, but as far as I know doesn't have a website.)

I'll take a look next week. Kurdish institutions and individuals have been getting attacked. This is subjective and political but if I get no nearer a pogrom than the last couple of weeks have been, I'll be happy.

A Kurdish bookshop is indeed there - I forgot to check if it is still called Medya but it is in the Alhamra Pasaji. It has not been burned to the ground by angry mobs brimming with "patriotism". At least not yet. There are interesting materials and I will be going back to it.
