The Czech humorous writer Jaroslav Hasek (1883-1923) once played a practical joke on a friend. He claimed in a newspaper article that the friend knew Permak (one of the Finnic languages of Russia - I think it is now called Komi).

Not long after, the friend was accosted by a man who said, "I know Finnish and am studying Tatar, but Permak! That's fantastic! You must be the only person in Central Europe who knows it."
