It seems that by default, all words are considered unknown, and you have to select each
individual word to change that. Unless there is a way to reverse this, so that words
are assumed known until you tell it otherwise, LingQ would take too much time to be
usable.

You can click the "I know all the unknown words" button to change the status of all
these words at the same time. I usually add the unknown words and then click the
button. It took me a few minutes to get all the common words into the known category
and now I don't have any problems with the system.

OK, that is very good to know! I did try that in the reverse order, but then it wouldn't let me add back words as unknown so I assumed that it wouldn't work as you describe it either. There should really be an option for people that know almost all the words. Thanks for the tip, to both tipsters!

It's unclear what a course is and exactly what lessons are available. Sure, if I spend some time there I will understand these things, but you should really try to make it as intuitive as possible, otherwise potential user will move on to something more obviously usable. |

I agree with this completely. Having played around with LingQ for a few days - and for the most part really liking it - my main frustration was that I had no idea which courses to take and in what order. I was presented with a long list of courses and lessons, and picking them was almost random. It would be much better if either the LingQ team or maybe better existing users could build up and then add some recommended path through them.

If you're unsure about which course to take, you can choose random lessons ("Who is she?" and "Eating out" or whatever it's called are available in all languages).
The library suggests lessons based on your level and vocabulary. However, I don't know what the suggestions are like if you're advanced but don't yet have anything saved at LingQ.
