You might also want to look at this page for more about colloquial French.

Thanks you so much for that link. I've just started to look over it today and it is a great resource.

I have a infomal meeting with my French teacher and some other students discussing Sartre's, Huis Clos. I'll see how she reacts to me using informal French a bit since it won't be in a classroom setting.

I actually had a French dream the other day. I didn't really think it was possible but it happened. Basically I remember being asked various questions in French and I was able to come up with answers in French well.

I have a new french friend on myspace, she's 16 and uses lots of slang. I'm going to speak to her with slang too, that way my French doesn't have to be absolutely perfect and maybe she won't quit talking to me.

here is what she wrote, and the cool thing is i understood it all!

meri pour ton com
moi sa va é toi?
j'aime la zik kil y a sur ton myspace ^^

I told off a Frenchman today in French, well kind of. He was saying my French friend should write better French because he didn't like her use of slang. (Maybe he was upset he didn't understand. lol)

But I told him. Je l'ai comprise. Si j'eusse voulu écrire comme Louis XIV, j'eusse écrit comme un roi. Mais je choisis d'écrire moins soutenu.

So I used really fancy French. lol

I'm really enjoying using informal French with friends, it is really making me feel more like I fit in and I'm not just l'étranger. It is actually helping things to stay in my mind more also.

I also made an incorrect and plain sentence a little more poetic,
aussi cette émotion est forte comme l'amour, et quelquefois elle est trouvée, en triomphant de l'amour.

It may still be incorrect, I'm not sure, but it sounded good to my ears.

I'm in a weird spot with my French stuides recently. I know there is much more that I can learn, but when I read a book in French or watch a movie, since I understand so much of what I'm reading or hearing now, I'm just not feeling as motivated. I know that is dumb, but it's how I'm feeling. I'm going to go through my Maupassant book tonight and make sure I understand everything I can, even if I only learn 5 new things.

Don't worry, there is always so much more one can learn, and if you don't feel motivated whatsoever, what
diference does it make? You won't forget all the things you already know for that reason, will you?

Maybe it is time for you to ask yourself honestly which level of fluency you have reached, and then just go forwards
in a gentle way.

Hey thanks for the help. I think I realized something though. Some of these things I understand in reading or listening I only understand passively, so I need to take time to learn them actively in speaking and writing as well. I may try out scriptorium to make these things I have passive knowledge of become active.
