Something pops up as I check my subscriptions - the professor has just uploaded a new
video on Youtube in which he recorded himself working with the new Assimil course. It
features over an hour of his learning process exclusively in the Russian language.

Odd...

Yes, it is odd. But it's good to see Arguelles em acção. Hehe... It's actually the first time I see Arguelles speaking in another language than English (except for the Dutch interview)...

Well, his Russian accent is, let's say, interesting. A little more shadowing probably wouldn't hurt. But taking into account the amount of languages he's studying it's of course an achievement, the more if we consider that he studies languages mainly in order to read literature.

Can someone native or good enough in Russian translate the part of the video where he's
reviewing the course?

It is odd. I know no Russian (and frankly didn't want to sit through the entire thing
with no subtitles), but it seems almost a sort of "review" of the course. I don't really
see the point of doing it in Russian.

It is not a review except just a few words: the course (issued 3 months ago) is excellent but it is hard to comprehend 1 of the 4 narrators.

The video is showing simply the professor’s ordinary morning lesson.

I don't know if this is the part of the video you're referring to as I haven't watched the rest of it yet, but from what I am able to understand (anyone is welcome to correct me) at the very beginning he says he has been studying with the book for a few months one lesson mostly every morning, about an hour and forty five minutes, and he is now on the last lesson, number seventy. He says it is an excellent manual which he recommends to everyone, but that he does not like one of the voices in the recordings. He then outlines how he works with the manual, that he is going to read and listen to the lesson three times, and gets on to work.

On a lighter note though, as someone who treasures his Assimil book collection, I must say it makes me cringe the way he bends the spine of his copy.

In case some of you do not know, he has updated the description of the video the next
day after uploading. He explained what was going on in the video, and promised to
produce another episode which will show how he revises a manual he has already worked
through cover to cover.

It is less a review, but should add to the "Methodology" series (as it goes public
inadvertently), where he explains and demonstrates what he conceives to be (at least to
a certain kind of learners) the most efficient ways to learn a language.

He has also shared another clip which Russian learners may find interesting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7nn7dFpwSY - Russian Soft Consonant Phonetic Drills
Фонетические упражнения для мягких согласных в русском языке

I believe positive interest will encourage him to consider sharing more videos and
thoughts "inadvertently" in the future, so if you find him helpful, please like his
videos and subscribe to his channel.

By the way, Juan I feel the same... reading and books can be mutualistic. They must be
mutualistic.
