Hi All,
I'm going to take my son to Portugal for the summer (after one failed attempt) so that he can improve his
Portuguese. I'm wondering if we should stay in Porto or Lisbon. We have three factors to consider:
1. Which city is more interesting in the summer?
2. Which city is cheaper for a 3-month rental?
3. My son has been studying Portuguese with three Brazilian girls (from São Paulo I believe), so would the
Lisbon accent be easier for him or would the Porto accent be easier?
Thanks in advance!!

I don't think #3 makes a difference, if he's been learning Brazilian Portuguese anyway.
I think both cities are interesting in summer. Lisbon also has some very famous suburbs like Sintra/Cabo da Roca, Cascais etc...
Look up the average temperatures online. I know Lisbon can be very hot in summer, I assume Porto too. Sintra is milder afaiu.

You can get from Porto to Lisboa in one day by train, so the touristical aspect shouldn't be the decisive factor. I have stayed in both places as a tourist (i.e. one week or less) so I can't say how it is to live in either town for several months, but both are fairly big and have many different environments, access to transport etc. and you won't be bothered by the minuscule differences in dialect, so at the end of the day the relevant question would probably be: where can you get the nicest and most economical place to stay?

This sounds great. I've been thinking of moving to live in Porto or Lisbon as well. I
checked and the rental prices in Lisbon are a little bit higher but the public transport
is very good so you can afford to live out of the center a bit.
I use the numbeo website to compare costs of the cities.
hope all goes well!
