Description of what is on the sound file:
I noticed there are no Romanian language samples as of September 29, 2006, so I decided to upload one. The sample is in mp3 format and features me reading the first two paragraphs from the Romanian Wikipedia entry on the Romanian language.

The speaker is male, and a native speaker of Romanian from Bucharest (the capital). That being said, I have spent a minimal number of years undergoing formal education in Romania, and have spent a significant number of years abroad in the English world, which may or may not affect my accent/diction. Judge for yourself.

Limba română este o limbă indo-europeană, din grupul italic, făcând parte din subgrupul estic al limbilor romanice. Printre limbile romanice, româna este a cincea ca mărime după numărul de vorbitori, în urma spaniolei, portughezei, francezei şi italienei. Ea este vorbită în toată lumea de aproximativ 26 de milioane de persoane. Dintre acestea, 20 de milioane se află în România, unde româna este limbă oficială şi, conform datelor din 2002, limbă maternă pentru mai bine de 90% din populaţie. Limba română se bucură de statutul de limbă de stat în Republica Moldova, unde poartă numele de limba moldovenească, fiind limba maternă pentru 80% din populaţie, şi este una dintre cele şase limbi oficiale ale Provinciei Autonome Voivodina în Serbia. De asemenea este limbă oficială sau administrativă în câteva comunităţi şi organizaţii internaţionale, precum Uniunea Latină sau Uniunea Europeană — de la 1 ianuarie 2007.Limba română este numită adesea Limba lui Eminescu, după Mihai Eminescu, poetul naţional al României şi al Republicii Moldova.

Between romance languages, Romanian is the fifth in terms of number of speakers, behind Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian. Romanian is spoken worldwide by approximately 26 million people. From these, 20 million are located in Romania, where Romanian is the official language, and, according to 2002 data, the maternal language for over 90% of the population. The Romanian language enjoys official status in the Moldavian Republic, where it is called the Moldavian language, being a maternal language for approximately 80% of the population, and it is also one of six official languages of the Autonomous Province of Voivodina, in Serbia. likewise, it is an official or administrative language in several communities and international organizations, such as the Latin union or the European union, starting on January 1st, 2007. The Romanian language is often called Eminescu’s Language, after Mihai Eminescu, the national poet of Romania and the Moldavian Republic.
