I'm enjoying this little group activity, especially because we're focussing on the same thing at the same time.
Whether or not there's a long list LanguageSponge-type of yearlong challenges for Pax, I'd really like to continue
having something that we're all doing together each month.

We started the songs a little later in January, so if there's anyone else who would like to add theirs in the coming
week or so, feel free to do so.

Kanewai suggested and I seconded "Cooking", and if no one has any objections, I'd love to go with that.

Here are some ideas re. Food/Cooking.   Feel free to add suggestions/changes/additions...

The activity should have something to do with food/cooking, and your target language (TL), and may be
any (or all) of the following:

- Choose and post (or post a link to) a recipe. Translate it from your TL to your L1 or English; or from your L1 to
your TL.   
(- If neither your L1 nor your TL are English, then you could additionally do a second translation to English, or
perhaps another Pax member could do the translation to English?)

- Cook a dish. If the recipe is in your L1, then translate it to your TL. Report on the success (or otherwise?) of
the dish. - Photos would be fun too!

- Choose and share a piece of writing about food. It be can a passage from a novel, a poem, a chef's memoir,
etc. This can be a description (in English) of the work, or - if you'd like a more advanced activity - a translation
into English of a selection of the work.   

- Do a book review (cookbook, memoir, chef's biography).

- Choose and share a film, or scene from a film, about food.

- Describe a memorable meal, especially one from your target language's culture.

How does the above sound?   I've broadened the range to include PAXonians who might not enjoy cooking. (I do,
but know that for some people it falls into the "necessary chore" rather than "pleasurable activity" category.) It
should also allow for people with different levels of proficiency in their TL.

I'll try to cobble together a list of food-related films later, or if anyone else would
like to get a start on that, that'd be great!

Also, for people looking for French-language recipes, try

and English) recipes.   

Les Touilleurs. Kitchen/tableware store in Montreal, with
recipes in French (only).

Does anyone know of any good French-language food blogs? Something with all of: good writing, dependable
recipes, and a personal touch would be ideal, the French equivalent (if any) of:

Orangette
Smitten Kitchen
The Wednesday Chef

About French food, but in English:
Colloquial Cooking. Many recipes from Alsace, and also French
pastry.
David Lebovitz. Also more generally, about life in France.
Dorie Greenspan
French Fridays with Dorie Online group which tries recipes
from Greenspan's book "Around My French Table". The recipes themselves aren't posted online. (PM me if you'd
like me to send you a specific recipe.)
Patricia Wells, glossary. No recipes on this site either, but has a
very useful glossary of food /cooking terms.

There are a lot of youtube French cooking channels. I haven't explored too many yet; I
usually get too hungry after the first video and have to stop.

How about we take all Songines suggestions on post 131, but narrow the parameters - and
just have the Feb food challenge be about breakfast (or lunch, dessert, snacks,
cocktails, & al.) - that way we'll have room to do more food challenges if this works
(and I think it will!).

- I am tempted to try a PAX breakfast with all the recipes that are posted. I'm sure my
friends would like the idea.

Thanks Kanewai, - Cool idea. I'd be delighted to focus on the "breakfast" part for the recipes and cooking!
And, for the other activities, I may go more generally with "food", given the possible dearth of breakfast scenes
in films, novels, memoirs, etc.    

Looking forward to doing a (virtual) brunch with you all...!   (And lunch, drinks, and dinner later in the year..?)

To get people in mood for thinking about food/breakfast, here's a quote from a source many of you know well:
