@diplomaticus, we do like updates. But you might be better off starting a logbook of your activities. This allows you the freedom to post how and when you like, and in French if you prefer, rather than posting to this thread, which is in the general advice area.
Bon Chance!

Jeffers, L'avis de Marie looks fantastic. However, with how lengthy they are and all, I decided to put that on the "check it out in a few months" list. It seems like something for closer to A2 or so. |

Without being too pushy (I hope!), I'll just mention that L'avis de Marie is actually a lot easier to follow than Rfi's Journal en Francais facile. The audio is a bit slower, the transcripts actually match the audio, the transcripts highlight the sentences as the audio plays, and each episode has a list of vocab and idioms. It's something I wish I had discovered at the beginning. On the other hand, News in Slow French has a lot of the same features, with a shorter podcast, but at a cost.
I have to second rdearman's suggestion to start a logbook. It's also good to follow other people's logs. You will pick up a lot of good ideas and inspiration to keep going. If it wasn't for reading logs on HTLAL, my French adventure would probably have faded away within a year of starting.

I've begun a log:

I don't anticipate to post in the current thread anymore. Thanks to everyone for the
suggestions and advice so far. It seems the biggest thing is just to pick a path and
start walking.

They aren't the only ones! I've seen a lot of people with a lot of posts under their belts have broken links.

Some browsers can't handle making links because they add EOL characters at the edge of the window, so if the tag for the link takes more than one line it doesn't work. This is the same reason some people's posts are narrow, and others are as wide as your window. Chrome is one of the culprits, so I use Firefox for HTLAL.
