I hated the sound of German until I started studying it. Now I think it's not too bad. It's still not the nicest sounding language though. I've also heard that people don't like Dutch so much. What do you think?

I think this is a thread that should be closed asap. This sort of topic only creates bad feeling because it is so negative. And adds nothing constructive to anything, least of all to language learning and appreciation. If you don't like a language, if you think it is silly, messy, ugly ... fine, that's your personal, subjective opinion. Keep it to yourself.

I'm not a fan of the sound of Dutch either (one of my least favorites of the Germanic languages), yet I have always had a great appreciation for German.

Sound-wise, I'm not a fan of Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, etc.

I think both German and Dutch sound good.

So do I and I wish someone closed this thread as being irrelevant to how-to-learn-any-language!

The reason why I thought this would be a good thread is because there already is a thread called the most beautiful language so I thought it would be interesting to see what people think the most ugly languages are. People discussing which languages are the most beautiful must surely also have an opinion about which ones they think are ugly.

Don't you see that there is an enormous difference between positive (most beautiful) and negative (ugliest). People don't mind being called beautiful or intelligent, but they certainly don't want to be "the ugliest" or "the dumbest" or "the last person I want to know" nor do they want their language, culture, country be called that. This topic is insensitive, don't see that?
