Isn't начать just a normal verb, to begin in the perfective? Whenever I write я начинала it seems to be wrong and I am corrected with я начала....

Yeah. It is normal verb in the perfect form but look at   THIS. There are the oldish using of that word.
я начинала = "I would begin it" (many times in the past) or one time but didn't have it done completely or finished and have it abandoned now.
я начала = I started or begin
you rather good write in Russian I looked your blog

Page 79 now. Some parts are really hard to understand, and all of a sudden they are calling one guy Лебедев and I have no idea who it is >_< I have gone back to try and find him, but I only find his name at the party Настасья holds, and there he says one thing. And now all of a sudden Мышкин is visiting him somewhere and has received a letter...?

How long is the real version of this book really? :P How much did they cut away? Mine is 166 pages with pictures.

Well, I have gotten the most essential part of what was going on in that chapter though, so I guess I will survive.

Since I started using Anki one month ago I have learned approximately 330 words. Kind of good, I guess! I am adding more and more words from my book now since I am not doing anything else than reading at the moment.

Your book is awfully reduced. The original is 600-700 pages and Лебедев appears nearly in each chapter of the book. He is a rascal and wisecracker.

I will for sure read the original one day :)
I'm glad that it's not only my fault if I don't really understand everything then...

I practically read nothing from Thursday until Sunday, but these last two days I've been active and gotten to page 116. Very exciting book, even though I get very frustrated about all these gaps. All of a sudden Аглая hates Мышкин and then not and no explanation whatsoever >_< Don't explain it to me though, I will read the unabridged version one day and I absolutely hate and want to kill people who give away spoilers.

I can't really remember whatever I said would be my next book, but now I'm thinking Портрет. I can't really bring my huge childrens book about... Captain something... to work :P And I want to read my bilingual books while I still need them. Another bilingual novel, and then the children's book and then a REAL book? I want to read that slightly more contemporary book by the author Lomb recommended, but it's a PDF and I very much hate reading on a screen. So... that will wait. I so *AM* going to Russia next year and then I will buy a huge amount of books and send them home. They're already practically for free over there, which is a dangerous thing when a person such as I comes to visit.

So you are reading a shortened Easy Reader version, but hate spoilers? Hmm..?

Well yes! :P In this case the inbetween action can be as important as the result, and I hate spoilers of both kinds. I often don't read on the cover of a book or movie cause they give away too much information :P
