TAC 2009 Day 100
Tonight I started reading 무지개 원리 (Blessing of the Rainbow), which is an adult level inspirational book. It was a gift from one of the conversation partners I used to meet up with who had been reading it herself. When I first received it the contents were pretty impenetrable, so I was surprised that I could understand so much of it now without a dictionary.

TAC 2009 Day 101
Did a bit more Keroro this morning. I'm going to a going-away party for my Korean friend tonight. It should be fun and good practice!

TAC 2009 Day 102
I did some vocabulary, but haven't put the sentences in SRS yet. It was a lazy day, so I will have to make up for it this week.

TAC 2009 Day 103
I finished going through Keroro volume 4 and can now do a quick comparison to see my improvement.
Unknown words:
Keroro vol 1: 819 (4.55 per page)
Keroro vol 4: 614 (3.41 per page)
That's a pretty dramatic change of 25% fewer unknown words from one volume to the next. I am clearly learning a lot of vocabulary.
What I have been doing is writing down every word I don't know, even repeated words, until I fill up a page in my notebook (35 words). Then I look them all up, write down the Hanja and definitions, and then enter the ones that have good sentences into the SRS (usually about 10-15 sentences). It's simple, but effective.
This is definitely going well. I might stick with the Keroro series for comparison purposes, since it is motivating to see that kind of progress. It's also my most entertaining material on hand.

TAC 2009 Day 104
I made some short term goals for speaking ten days ago:

Things I want to improve in the near-term when speaking:
- Being more aware of and using the proper speech level
- Using explanatory endings more naturally (-거든, -는데, -잖아, -네, 등등...)
- Quoting/verifying sentences correctly |
|
|
I have definitely improved on the speech level aspect, made a little progress on using the endings appropriately, and not improved at all when quoting. These are going to remain my goals for now, but I may need to put some active effort into the last one since I'm pretty clueless what to do when the situation arises. With the other two goals I know what I need to do, but I usually think of the right form a second after I finish my sentence.

I began doing the vocabulary in Keroro volume 5. I'll start giving the answers and definitions for my card of the day since it is likely that hardly anyone can actually read the mixed script.
