TAC 2009 Day 165

I had less time than usual, but buckled down and did all 100 vocabulary words in the evening without a break. I'm on page 81 / 239 of the book I'm mining.

Tomorrow I probably can't get in 100 words because I'll be meeting up with my Korean friends in the evening. Still, I'm well beyond the pace I would need to reach my goal of ten 100-word days this month.

TAC 2009 Day 166

Two days ago I went over 1500 unique Hanja in my SRS deck. Currently I'm at 1537 unique characters, and probably know 90% of them very well, while I am still working on memorizing the others. Every now and then there is a word that uses two characters I've never seen before and may never see again, like 몽롱(朦朧), but I learn them anyway just because I want to know as much as I can.

I've also found that when I watch the Korean versions of Japanese shows, I can understand a great deal of the Japanese text that is on the screen, such as episode titles and the different professions listed in the credits. It seems that learning Japanese would probably be a much less monumental task after Korean. I will probably study Japanese at some point in the future, but I like to do things one at a time, so it will have to wait.

You'll encouner 몽롱 more than you actually think. I personally think it is a rather common and simple word compared to most of others that you already know. :)

You're right, I've seen that one several times, but I haven't seen any other words that use the same Hanja as 몽롱.

TAC 2009 Day 166

I spent the evening with my Korean friends, and while normally I don't talk too much, this time it was a bit more one on one, so I talked for about 2 hours straight. For a while now I haven't had to use English at all, and my friends prefer to speak in Korean with me. I still have a long way to go with speaking, but it comes easier even though I have mostly been reading the past two months.

TAC 2009 Day 167

Last night I had another dream in Korean. Before when I would dream in Korean much of it would be unintelligible, but in this one I was having coherent conversations and also there were signs and advertisements in Hangul that made sense. I think this probably happened because I spent so much time speaking yesterday that the mindset stayed with me through the night.

Yesterday and today were my SRS catch-up days. It took a lot of reps, but have managed to filter through the mass that I have added recently. Tomorrow I'll get back to adding more new vocabulary.

TAC 2009 Day 168

I did another 100-word day today, with some time to spare. I'm also getting a LOT better at remembering words after the first time I see them. There were only 15 out of the 100 today that I didn't remember a few hours after inputting them. I guess if you throw enough at the wall it will get sticky on its own.

June 100-Word Days: 5

I'm halfway to meeting this goal for the month, and in hindsight I think it was a really good idea. I was not even close to realizing the full potential of my study time when I didn't have a definite daily goal. I still want to strike some balance with listening practice though since that skill is lagging so far behind.
