"Ek will iets graag hè": "ek soek iets"

Romantikus

Vaag weg raak die wêreld weg
en my gedagtes voer my weg
na 'n ander plek,
'n plek so erg
my bedoeling is so opreg

Vague ways become the world's ways
and my thoughts take me away
to another place
a place so bad (or evil)
my aim is so sincere

alles is so relatief
ek wonder of enige iemand die wêreld
soos ek kan sien
ek wonder of ek reg kan sien
want deesdae voel alles so relatief

Everything is so relative
I wonder if anyone the world
like I can see
because these days feels everything so relative
I know not the definition of substance not

Refrein:
Ek voel soms so leeg sonder jou
Ek voel altyd so leeg sonder jou
Laat my na jou soet stem luister
terwyl jy trane in my hart fluister
Soen my nek, soen my net
sodat ek wakker kan bly
Glimlag, glimlag vir my o glimlag!

I feel sometimes so lonely without you
I feel always so lonly without you
Let me to your sweet voice listen
While your tears in my heart whisper
Kiss my neck, kiss me just
so that I awake can stay
Smile, smile for me, o smile!

Ander wêrelde verskiettende pêrels
my emosies laat my so bedwelmd
as ek tog maar net geweet het
en ek wat mooi so seer is
Revolusie, romantiek, ruk en rol
laat my dink aan die verlustingde
geure van my lewe
laat my nie moed opgee nie
want als is mooi
alles, so seer nie

Another world's sparkling? (or shooting?) pearls Ongelukkig verstaan ek nie verskiettende nie. Ek moet 'n beter woordeboek koop.
my emotions left me so stunned
if I only just known had
and I what beautiful so painful is
Revolution, romantic, rock 'n' roll
let me think of the luxurious? Ek is onseker oor verlustingde.
scent of my life
let me not courage abandon
because all is beautiful
everything so painful not

Refrein:

Laat my na jou soet stem luister

herhaal refrein 2x

Glimlag, glimlag, Glimlag, glimlag!
Smile, smile, smile, smile

Die reën het nou ophou, so ek sal nou my fiets ry.

Mick

The vocabulary in the article about the history of Afrikaans was even more advanced than I realized. That, as well as the article's exceeding length, is why I haven't finished reading it yet. Hopefully I'll finish it this week, though I make no promises. Eventually I will definitely complete the article and hopefully have more insight into how Afrikaans came to be.

Goeie nag

Lekker slaap
Mick

I knew should've included an English translation/summary, so here it is. I have not read the article, but I did find an intriguing poem, "Vir Sara Baartman" by Diana Ferrus. Sara Baartman was a slave who was also known as the "Hottentot Venus". In 1810, she was taken to Europe and exploited as a sideshow freak. She was living in France when she died in 1815. The French government kept her remains until 2002, when they were returned to South Africa. If you want to know the whole story you can also listen to an interview with Diana Ferrus.

I know I haven't written anything in this log in almost two months, but I have been continuing to learn Afrikaans. I have decided that I can no longer use the audio for the Teach Yourself Afrikaans course as a review; the speakers seem to talk too slowly now. I assume that this means I am still making progress and now listen to online radio broadcsts more often to hear spoken Afrikaans.

Hi,

I find it really hard to follow this all the way through, to be honest. The funny thing
is, I read your first entry and thought: awesome! This is what I'm doing with my blog (s.
my profile homepage!) at the moment! I can learn so much from reading this. But it's
really difficult to read it all the way through, because of the site's layout and because
you can't really filter by subject. Thank you for putting this up though!

You're welcome! It's always great to find another person who wants to learn Afrikaans. I'm glad that you're finding something useful in my log. I would have replied sooner but I was reading your blog and I like your idea of a one year challenge. Alles van die beste.
